Is the No Carb Diet Safe?
Whilst there’s certainly a longish list of cons to taking on the no carb diet it is considered to be safe.
It’s possible to cut out carbs relying on fats alone for fuel and still have enough energy to exercise at your maximum level.
Whilst there are elements that you must have in your diet in order to remain healthy there are no sugars or carbohydrates on this essential list so you are not depriving your body of anything it needs to survive.
In order to function without carbs, your body does a very good job either making the sugars it needs or finding alternate energy sources. For example, when you drastically reduce or eliminate carbs from your diet, your body is able to make sugar to store as glycogen.
What are the positives of the No Carb Diet?
There are some good positives if you decide to take on the No Carb Diet.
Many people on the no carb diet report being a lot less bloated. This is because reducing your carbohydrate consumption has a diuretic effect on your body, leading to you shedding a lot more water. Don’t forget to replace the fluids you are losing on this diet and drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated.
Change in behaviours is something that many people also report. This change is to do with people’s cravings.
At the start of the diet many people find they still crave the carbs they have dropped such as breads and pastas, but over time those cravings fade and instead they begin to crave much healthier alternatives.
Lastly and most importantly the big positive is weight loss. With less carbohydrates consumed people on the no crab diet report good weight loss even without an increase in exercise. It is no uncommon for people to lose between 7-10 lbs in a month with this diet which is a good healthy level of weight loss.
What are the negatives to the No Carb Diet?
Whilst the positives are clear to see, there are also some negatives that should be taken into consideration if you are thinking of taking up this diet.
Firstly, many people who start on this diet report they get very bad headaches in the first week. This is likely due to them going cold-turkey on carbohydrates. This means you start to get withdrawal symptoms much like when people try to give up drinking alcohol or caffeine.
As well as the headaches many people report that they have a lot less energy and lose their focus easily. This is caused by a lack of glucose as your body would have been used to getting this from the carbohydrates you were eating before taking on the diet… Over time this can fade as your body gets used to it’s new diet program.
In conclusion the no carb diet is an effective way of losing weight but for many the downsides will be too much to take on and many people report that they abandon the diet inside the first week as they struggle to overcome the tiredness and headaches that many suffer from. If you are able to power through then you will be rewarded with a healthy level of weight loss and a leaner looking body.
